You learn to speak by speaking
Plenty of learners can read Arabic and pass a grammar quiz, yet freeze when someone actually talks to them. Speaking is a separate skill and it only improves with practice in real time. Conversation classes give you that practice in a setting where mistakes are expected and corrected kindly.
What happens in a conversation class
Your tutor plans each session around a topic, such as introductions, family, work, travel, shopping or faith, and then gets you talking. You will learn useful phrases, use them straight away in dialogue and get feedback on pronunciation, word choice and grammar. As you improve, the conversations become longer and less scripted.
Which Arabic will I speak?
Arabic has a formal standard and many regional dialects. Tell us what you need it for, whether that is travel, family, work or study, when you book your trial, so your tutor can focus your practice. If you want the formal language used across the Arab world, see our Modern Standard Arabic course.
Who it suits
Conversation classes work best once you can read basic Arabic and know some everyday vocabulary. Complete beginners should start with Arabic for beginners. Because sessions are one-on-one, you get all of the speaking time, rather than sharing it with a group.
Practice on your schedule
Book 24/7 and choose your days. Short, frequent sessions in your own US time zone are often better for speaking than one long class a week.
Frequently asked questions
I am shy about speaking. Will this work?
Yes. One-on-one sessions mean nobody else is listening, and tutors build up gradually from short phrases.
Do you teach dialects?
Tell us your goal when you book and we will tell you what is available.
